Membership Code of Conduct

Advocacy works best when everyone involved communicates honestly, safely, and respectfully

This Code applies to Senior Members, Family Members, Caregiver Members, and other authorized people participating in membership advocacy services

Respect Goes Both Ways

Members have the right to ask questions, disagree, express frustration,
challenge an action, or make a complaint.

Members may not:

  • Threaten or intimidate another person

  • Harass, stalk, bully, or physically harm someone

  • Repeatedly use abusive or degrading language

  • Engage in sexual harassment or inappropriate sexual conduct

  • Deliberately interfere with an Advocate's ability to provide services

Disagreement is allowed. Abuse is not.

Our Advocates and team are expected to follow the same standard
of respectful conduct.

Be Honest

All members should provide information that is truthful and complete
to the best of their knowledge.

Members may not knowingly:

  • Provide false or materially misleading information

  • Falsify documents

  • Ask an Advocate to lie or conceal important information

  • Ask an Advocate to participate in fraud or unlawful conduct

Use Advocacy Services Appropriately

Membership services may not be used to:

  • Harass or retaliate against another person

  • Pursue a personal vendetta

  • Make knowingly false complaints

  • Pressure an Advocate to take sides in unrelated personal disputes

  • Obtain information without authorization

  • Misrepresent Seniors in Distress or its Advocates

  • Demand unlawful, unethical, or unsafe actions

Respect the Senior's Voice

Family Members and Caregiver Members must respect the rights
of the Senior Member.

Participation may not be used to control, threaten, pressure, exploit,
or isolate the senior.

A capable senior's decisions cannot simply be overridden because another person disagrees.

Non-Discrimination Works Both Ways

Seniors in Distress provides membership and advocacy services without unlawful discrimination based on characteristics protected by applicable law.

That standard works both ways.

Members may not discriminate against, harass, demean, or reject an Advocate, employee, volunteer, or another person for a discriminatory reason prohibited
by law.

Members may raise legitimate concerns about an Advocate's communication, behavior, performance, or compatibility. We will not honor a request to exclude
an Advocate for an unlawfully discriminatory reason.

Respect Privacy

Members must respect information belonging to the Senior Member
and other people involved in the advocacy process.

Family Members and Caregiver Members should not attempt to obtain information they are not authorized to receive.

Appropriate Communication

We understand that people often contact us during stressful situations.

Frustration alone is not misconduct.

However, repeated abusive calls or messages, threats, intimidation, discriminatory abuse, sexual comments or behavior, or other communications that make it unsafe or unreasonable to continue services are not acceptable.

Reasonable communication boundaries may be established when necessary.

Violations

Depending on the seriousness and frequency of the conduct,
we may:

  • Discuss the concern with the member

  • Give a warning

  • Establish communication boundaries

  • Limit a Family Member's or Caregiver Member's participation

  • Temporarily suspend services

  • Suspend membership

  • Terminate membership or participation

Serious threats, violence, fraud, harassment, discriminatory abuse, unlawful conduct, or immediate safety concerns may result in immediate action.

Members Can Raise Concerns About Us

This Code does not prevent a member from complaining
about Seniors In Distress or an Advocate.

Members may question our actions, correct inaccurate information, report inappropriate conduct, request review of a concern, or make a complaint.

A legitimate complaint will not by itself be grounds for membership cancellation.

Our Commitment

Members can expect our team to follow the same basic principles of respect, honesty, fairness, appropriate conduct, privacy, and non-discrimination
that we expect from members.

Respect goes both ways.

Other Policies

Caregiver Members are also subject to our Terms of Membership,
Membership Code of Conduct, and Privacy Policy.

Approved Caregiver Members may participate in a Senior Member's advocacy without a separate membership charge.

Changes to This Policy

Seniors in Distress reserves the right to change, modify, update, replace,
or discontinue this policy as our services, operations, or legal requirements change.

Material changes will be communicated when required or appropriate.
The current version posted on our website, together with its Last Updated
date, will apply from its stated effective date.

Peace of Mind

The Child Development Program in Kenya is a holistic initiative aimed at improving the well-being, growth, and potential of children in both urban and rural

Early Childhood Development (ECD)

At the heart of the program is Early Childhood Development, targeting children between the ages of 0 to 5 years. It focuses on foundational brain development, emotional nurturing, and early learning.

Through community-based ECD centers, children receive age-appropriate stimulation, structured play, balanced meals, and regular health checks. Parents are also trained in responsive caregiving and positive parenting practices.

Education Access

The program ensures that school-age children have access to quality education by providing school fees subsidies, uniforms, learning materials, and mentorship. Special emphasis is placed on girl-child education and children with disabilities. School retention campaigns and after-school tutoring help improve literacy and numeracy, while partnerships with local schools enhance teaching quality and infrastructure.

Nutrition & Health

Nutrition is a cornerstone of the program, with consistent feeding schemes established in ECD centers and primary schools. Malnutrition screenings are conducted regularly, followed by treatment and dietary supplementation where necessary. Health outreach efforts include immunizations, deworming, vitamin A distribution, and access to clean water and sanitation facilities.
