Better Care / Health & Care Students

Help seniors fighting a broken health and care system

Better Care is our answer to a growing crisis facing seniors today — the quiet suffering that comes from being overlooked, undernourished, or unsupported in daily life. It is not just about healthcare; it is about the compassion, consistency, and dignity that every senior deserves.

Did you know

Too many seniors are left behind when it comes to daily care:

  • Over 5 million older adults in the U.S. struggle with daily living tasks
  • 1 in 2 seniors faces some level of food insecurity or nutritional risk
  • Seniors living alone are twice as likely to experience depression, loneliness, and physical decline
  • Chronic conditions, medication side effects, and emotional needs often go unaddressed — not due to lack of care, but lack of access and consistent attention
  • Even in care facilities or after hospital discharge, seniors may receive minimal daily support, leading to delayed recovery, malnutrition, or neglect

Make a difference:

Because daily care should feel like love, not survival for seniors

Better Care is our promise to show up for seniors in the small, essential ways that matter most — with meals, kindness, presence, and help they can count on. It is how we bring dignity back into everyday life, one act of care at a time. When others overlook, we step closer. Because no senior should have to struggle just to get through the day. You can make a difference too.

• Public Health Advocate / Bring Awareness

Your role focuses on helping seniors cut through confusing information—from the internet, TV, and everywhere else—so they can truly get needed care. You will improve access to health services, promote preventive care, and address the health challenges many seniors face.

How you help seniors get better care

Public Health Advocate can help seniors through our externship:

  • Identify and address barriers that prevent seniors from accessing essential health services

The impact on seniors care

Many seniors struggle silently with missed medications, feelings of isolation, or not knowing where to turn for help. For example, a senior living alone might skip doctor visits because of transportation challenges or fear of exposure to illness. Our Public Health Advocates break down these barriers by connecting seniors with safe transportation, telehealth options, and local resources—bringing care, comfort, and reassurance back into their daily lives.

Get Started

Getting started with our externship means gaining skills to make a real difference in the lives of seniors who need care, respect, and hope. These skills are also ones you can apply to someone you care about—whether a family member, neighbor, or friend. If you have witnessed an older loved one face challenges alone, this opportunity allows you to turn compassion into action.
