SMS-Text Policy

This SMS-Text Policy explains how Seniors In Distress, Inc. uses text messaging and how recipients may manage text-message preferences.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it may be used,
and the choices available regarding that information

Consent to Receive Text Messages

By providing a mobile telephone number and opting in to text messages,
the subscriber authorizes Seniors In Distress to send text messages
to that number.

Consent to receive marketing text messages is not required to purchase
a membership, receive advocacy assistance, make a donation, attend an event,
or use any other service.

Types of Messages

Text messages may include:

  • Appointment and Quality of Life Check reminders

  • Advocacy and service updates

  • Requests for additional information

  • Membership and payment notifications

  • Event registrations, reminders, and waitlist updates

  • Program announcements

  • Volunteer or partnership communications

  • Donation acknowledgments

  • Safety or time-sensitive information

  • News, resources, and community updates

Message Frequency

Message frequency varies based on the programs, services, events,
or communications selected. Additional messages may be sent when needed
to respond to an active request or provide time-sensitive information.

Message & Data Rates

Message and data rates may apply according to the recipient’s mobile-service plan. Seniors In Distress does not charge a separate fee for receiving text messages.

Opting Out

Text STOP to stop receiving messages.

Other reasonable requests to stop messages, including CANCEL, END, QUIT, REVOKE, OPT OUT, or UNSUBSCRIBE, will also be honored. Federal rules recognize these words and other reasonable methods as valid ways to revoke consent.

A single confirmation message may be sent after an opt-out request.
No additional marketing text messages will be sent unless consent is provided again.

An opt-out request may also be submitted by:

  • Email: [email address]

  • Telephone: [telephone number]

  • Online: [contact or privacy-request link]

Opting out of text messages does not automatically stop email, telephone,
or postal communications. Preferences for those communication methods
may be changed separately.

Informational & Marketing Messages

Some text messages are informational and relate to a requested service, scheduled visit, membership, donation, registration, or ongoing advocacy matter.

Marketing messages may include program announcements, fundraising messages, community news, or event promotions. Marketing consent may be withdrawn at any time.

Privacy

Mobile telephone numbers and SMS consent records are used to provide requested communications, document consent, manage preferences,
and comply with legal requirements.

Mobile information and SMS consent will not be sold, rented, or shared
with third parties for their own marketing or promotional purposes.

Information may be provided to a text-messaging platform or other service provider only as needed to deliver messages, maintain records, protect
the messaging system, or comply with the law.

Additional information appears in the Seniors In Distress Privacy Policy.

Protecting Sensitive Information

Text messaging may not be completely secure. Text messages should
not include Social Security numbers, complete payment-card numbers, passwords, detailed medical records, or other highly sensitive information.

An Advocate may provide another method for securely submitting sensitive documents or information.

Emergencies

Text messaging is not an emergency service and may not be monitored
at all times.

For an immediate medical or safety emergency, call 911. Suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation should also be reported directly to the appropriate protective-services or law-enforcement agency.

Supported Carriers

Message delivery depends on the participating mobile carrier, device,
service availability, and network conditions. Mobile carriers are not responsible
for delayed or undelivered messages.

Telephone Number Changes

A recipient who changes or transfers a mobile telephone number should
notify Seniors In Distress or opt out before discontinuing use of the number.
This helps prevent messages from being delivered to another person.

Changes to This Policy

Seniors In Distress may update this SMS Policy when its messaging practices, services, technology, or legal obligations change. The revised policy will display an updated effective date.
